On Sunday we made homemade Montreal style bagels. I used this recipe, and they turned out pretty nice! I was surprised at how simple it actually was to make our own bagels. We just had to make the dough, knead for 10 minutes, cut up the dough and shape it into bagels, then boil for 90 seconds, dip in sesame seeds, and bake for 20 minutes.

I forgot to take an after baking picture. They puffed up a bit in the oven and got a nice brown colour.

Three midterms coming up this week. I need to study a lot!! Anatomy, applied physiology, and physics. Eugh.

The hockey video game is surprisingly fun. I actually beat Scott!!

Hugo was good, I liked it. That movie had a lot of dust, did anyone else notice that?? Young Adult was ok I guess, but frustrating. I guess that was kind of what they were going for though.

Scott made breakfast pizza tonight. We have homemade pizza every second Sunday but I was a bit bored of the usual pizza so I asked for something new. This pizza had ham, tomato, green onion, and eggs cracked on top. It was delicious!

Last night we went out for dinner. Scott won a gift certificate from the Polar Bear Swim for Stepho’s, a Greek restaurant on Davie Street. We got there around 7 pm and there was a big line, as expected. Luckily since we were just a group of 2 we got seated a lot quicker. I would not recommend going there in a big group! We ordered a lamb platter, saganaki (fried cheese), and dolmathes (rice and meat in grape leaves) to share. I enjoyed the saganaki (duh) and the flavour of the dolmathes a lot, but they were quite oily. The lamb was really big and incredibly tender. It fell off the bones. The sides (salad, vegetables, rice) were all good and it came with a lot! We didn’t finish everything.

Scott and I started the 30 Day Shred last week. It’s a quick intense workout program thingy that you can do at home. You need weights. It was a little harder today…. maybe because of last nights fried cheese. We’re done 4 of 30 days. I get soooo sweaty and I really hate the jumping parts – my calves cramp up. I hope we can complete the program but it will definitely be tough.

Day 1 of solitude hasn’t been so bad.

Scott actually didn’t have to leave until around 11 AM so we had a lazy morning together. We ate sushi leftovers and played NHL 12 on the Playstation. I got the game for a present for Scott through some special connections at school. I knew he wanted it and the price was right so I got it. Actually it was pretty fun playing it against each other this morning, but maybe only because we were both equally bad at it. Once he gets good I probably won’t want to play any. But anyway, the commentators were funny and the graphics are pretty cool. And I (Sens) beat him (Canucks) 2-1. YEAH.

Yesterday was lots of fun. My aunt and uncle came over for dinner. Rosemarie and Scott did most of the cooking, which was nice. Rosemarie made pork dumplings, and I chopped up the vegetables and fish for sushi. Scott made white chocolate raspberry mini cheesecakes. Then Rosemarie rolled all the sushi and then I dropped it on the floor. We ate it anyway. Take a look at our feast!


We had lots of leftovers. Fine by me!!

After dinner we played two games of Settlers. I love Settlers. What a great game. I wish we were rich so I could buy THIS. Only $489.95! (and that one doesn’t even come with a trunk. yeesh)

Anyway I finished two lab reports today, which is good. I’ve still got three assignments and studying to do tomorrow. And grocery shopping. Blech.

I hope I sleep better tonight, I’ve had two very bad insomnia nights in a row. :(

We continued our tradition of Mexican food for Valentine’s Day, but it wasn’t a good experience this year. We went to Dona Cata, a restaurant that someone from the Vancouver Livejournal community recommended to me last year. It was supposed to be really tasty and authentic.

We each ordered something that was basically a plate of mixed up meat and vegetables and cheese that comes with corn tortillas on the side.

Ugh it was SO greasy. Scott’s chicken was also extremely bland and flavourless.

I don’t know, maybe the food was more like what regular Mexican people eat for dinner at home? Maybe the issue was that it was TOO authentic for us? I’m not sure. I missed guacamole and beans and rice. :( I felt like we would have had a nicer meal had we just cooked our own dinner at home.

The service was also really slow, which was unfortunate because I was hoping for a quick dinner so I could get home and study more. It ended up taking a pretty long time, and then when I got home I felt so gross and greasy that I didn’t even do much more school work. Luckily the midterm still went extremely well today.

Scott and I went out for hot chocolate this morning at Mink Chocolates. Kits seemed a bit far so I chose this one instead. We were the only ones there at 10:30 AM.

I brought my camera but didn’t take any pictures because it just looked like brown liquid in a white mug. It was tasty though for sure!!

I had milk chocolate ganache hot chocolate with salted caramel and hint of rosemary, and Scott had milk chocolate ganache hot chocolate with pistachio. I couldn’t taste the rosemary in mine, but I could definitely taste the salt. It was yummy. Scott’s was nice too but I forget what pistachios taste like, so I can’t say much about that.
