Some of the delicious foods on our trip:

Poke bowl at the surfing competition. (Bowl of cold raw tuna on a bed of warm rice.) SO TASTY. We could taste sesame, soy sauce, chili. Overall it was very nice and I would 100% eat it again!

Matsumoto’s shave ice. Mine was supposed to come with ice cream and beans but it came with neither. I am still sad. I had been waiting three years for another shave ice with ice cream and beans!! :'( Rosemarie was nice enough to give me an ice cream donation part of the way through, lol.

Shrimp and rice from Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck. Garlicky deliciousness. I just had a half plate this time, which was definitely plenty.

One day we went to Ihop for lunch. They had Christmas specials that were significantly cheaper than regular meals, plus they sounded significantly tastier! WIN WIN! All four of us were very boring and all ordered the white chocolate raspberry pancakes with the smallest side option (eggs and hashbrowns). I think each meal only cost $6 or $7 and it was definitely filling. I added extra syrup because I felt they were not sugary enough already. :P

Fish tacos and chicken tacos. With lots of added hot sauce. Nom nom.

This post is a bit late, since we were in Hawaii last Monday. No recipes for you this week since either Scott cooked, we ate out, or we were making random meals to use up all the food we had in the house before we left.

november 17th, 2013 – cannelloni

november 18th, 2013 – sesame chicken with vegetables and rice

November 19th, 20th and 21st I was working at the data centre and forgot to take a picture of my dinner because my routine was all off. I had leftovers from the previous nights dinner.

november 22nd, 2013 – turkey pot pie

The last fortnight was pretty unusual. Brett was visiting, and I started working at the hospital. Visitors and working so much meant eating a lot of meals away from home.

november 3rd, 2013 – mr. noodles with egg and sriracha

november 4th, 2013 – crunch wrap and taco from Taco Bell

Scott picked this up for me on his way home from Seattle. TRU LUV.

november 5th, 2013 – yam tempura, spicy tuna roll, salmon roll, salad and miso from Sake Cafe

november 6th, 2013 – salmon sushi, spicy tuna roll, spider roll, and unpictured salad and miso soup from Sake Cafe

november 7th, 2013 – leftover sushi

So much sushi. The leftovers didn’t taste great… I’m kind of sick of sushi at the moment. O_O

november 8th, 2013 – queso fundido (and tacos) from La Mezcaleria

Now THIS tasted great. I want to go back to this restaurant really bad!

november 9th, 2013 – caramelized salsa pumpkin with black beans

This tasted a lot better than it looks. It was only burnt on the outside. The insides tasted delicious!

november 10th, 2013 – vegetable lasagna

THIS IS THE MOST DELICIOUS PIZZA EVER!! Or at least one of the best things I have made in a while. I highly recommend this recipe! The sweet pomegranate tastes awesome with the salty garlic kale. I wasn’t sure it would (why it’s only on one quarter of the pizza in that picture), but it totally did. By the way I didn’t have pine nuts, parmesan or fontina as the recipe calls for, and it still tasted AMAZING. So you can save a little money by leaving out a few ingredients. We used naan bread as crust.

november 12th, 2013 – leftover vegetable lasagna

november 13th, 2013 – leftover scotanoff

November 14th, 2013 I ate leftover sriracha mac and cheese and sausage at work but forgot to take a picture.

november 15th, 2013 – green olive, sausage and mushroom pizza from Domino’s

Pouring rain and didn’t feel like cooking so we ordered delivery for the first time ever. What luxury.

november 16th, 2013 – crescent rolls stuffed with cheese and green onions, and unpictured popcorn

Lady dinner with Morgan up at Whistler. We watched The Way Way Back and stuffed our faces with popcorn and pinot grigio. Fun times!

How does this restaurant not have any reviews on Urbanspoon yet?? Well it looks really nice inside so maybe it’s new. Anyway, Sake Café rules!!! I ate there last Tuesday AND Wednesday, lol. It’s near VGH on Broadway.

So they have a special where you can order three items from a list for $8.95, and it also comes with miso soup and a salad. It says that is a lunch special on their menu but currently you can get the deal at any time of day. There are about 40 different things you can choose from including appetizer items, nigiri sushi, simple rolls and even some special rolls.

Lots of places have deals like this but the difference here is that they do not skimp on anything! Everything was really nicely made, large, and decent quality. They also have great service and the food arrives VERY quickly. Perfect!!

TUESDAY

The free salad and miso. The salad is just iceberg lettuce, but the carrot ginger dressing is really tasty. The miso soup soothed my sore throat after a day of yelling talking loudly at the hospital.

On Tuesday I chose 1) yam tempura, 2) salmon roll, and 3) spicy tuna roll. I was very satisfied with the spicy tuna roll! And the yam tempura was nicely crispy and light.

The whole feast. Not bad for $9!! My food arrived in like 5 minutes as well, which is awesome.

WEDNESDAY

I raved about it so much Scott and Brett wanted to come try it the next afternoon.

This time I ordered 1) salmon sushi, 2) spicy tuna roll, and 3) spider roll. It came with the soup and salad again too. And it was all great.

Between Brett and Scott we also tried the spicy salmon roll, california roll, avocado roll, and the variety tempura. Everything was as good as we hoped.

Happy sushi brothers. Heehee.

I only heard about La Mezcaleria a week or two ago but ever since I heard BOWL OF MELTED CHEESE I couldn’t stop thinking about it!

Lauren was in town and we went to check it out on Friday. We had to wait a while for a table (well, Lauren had to wait, as I was very late… oops) so I would suggest making a reservation if you go. Our table ended up being at the bar, which was crowded, but okay.

I had a margarita (I LOVE LIME!) and Lauren had a Chico, which has tequila, blackberry liqueur, grenadine, lime and soda. They were both delicious.

Bring on the bowl of cheese!! We started with the queso fundido with chorizo and loved it.

It comes out in a super hot rock bowl, still bubbling, with corn tortillas and salsas on the side. The edges of the cheese continue to cook as you eat and get nice and crispy. We used forks to twirl blobs of cheese and chorizo and then used corn tortillas to pull it off the fork and eat it.

It was oily but not overwhelming so. Both of us thought it was very delicious and I would 100% eat it again.

We also ordered a set of tacos. Lauren had a chicken one and a pork and pineapple one. She liked the addition of the sweet pineapple with the savoury taco. I got a fish taco and a beef cheek taco and they were both good. I added lots of salsas to my beef taco. I don’t usually like corn tortillas that much but theirs were great.

Service was good and there are still tons of things on the menu that I’m sure are delicious. I hope to return sometime soon!
