Last Friday Scott and I went to see Dan Mangan, at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. I thought it was a great show! Robots got a bit tedious after the 150th “robots need love too, they want to be loved by you” but other than that I had lots of fun.

I always enjoy it when a musician talks in between songs, and he did that. If they’re not going to talk you might as well just stay home and listen to the CD really loud!

His electric guitarist (on the left of this pic) was really funny. I give him an A+ for enthusiasm!!!

For the last song of the encore he came right out in to the audience. Right after I took this picture he told everyone to put away their phones and cameras and just enjoy being in the moment. We all sang along and it sounded pretty cool in the big theatre. That girl right underneath his left elbow looked like she might pass out from happiness from being so close to Mr. Mangan. Hahahaha.

If you still don’t know who Dan Mangan is you are missing out. He’s from Vancouver and has a lovely gravelly voice. Check him out! Here’s a video from a performance for CBC.

In other news I made eggs benedict for our breakfast this morning, complete with home made Hollandaise sauce. I am pretty proud of myself. The part I still need to work on is how to get all of the elements ready at the same time so they are still hot when it’s time to eat. Tricky! I won’t be trying this again for a while though… this breakfast is definitely a “sometimes” food.

On Wednesday Leslie came to visit us on her way to Korea. It was really great to see her, and I can’t wait to hear about her upcoming adventures!! She already has more plans in the next month than I do!!!

We brought Leslie to The Eatery because she is an adventurous sushi eater. :D It’s pretty far from our house but it’s so fun and tasty! I love that restaurant. It always seems worth the journey.

Now that Scott and I have been there a few times we have a better idea of the good and not-so-good rolls and we ended up with a really really good meal. All the food was awesome.

From top to bottom:

  • Viva Las Vegas: crab, eel, avocado, cream cheese, spicy misonnaise (tempura style)
  • Italian Stallion: prosciutto, papaya, eel, cream cheese, hot pesto sauce
  • The Figa Roll: figs, blue cheese sauce, tempura crunch wrapped with prosciutto
  • Green Hornet: tempura prawns, avocado, mango
  • Electric Banana: eel, avocado topped with tempura banana
  • Buddha Roll: tempura yams, red pepper, asparagus and lettuce, with dragon sauce

And the one on the right:

  • The Volcano: tuna, scallops, salmon and avocado (tempura style) on a lava bed of spicy crab meat

I loved the Figa Roll and the Italian Stallion the most, as usual.

I guess the drinks were the weak part of the meal. The waitress brought Scott the wrong beer, the blender was broken so I couldn’t get a sake margarita, and Leslie’s snakebite didn’t have any grenadine in it. :/

Then we came home and played Ticket To Ride. Yay board games.

I mean look at that. YUM.

This is the paper that ripped off inside my printer. I called Epson support to get them to tell me how to get it out. I got it out no problem but then the printer decided to say that all of my ink is empty even though I can hear the ink sloshing around the cartridge when I shake it. What a scam.

I complained to Epson on Twitter and the rep said that customer service would be contacting me, but they haven’t yet. I’m not going to let this go though.

Water marbled my nails last week. I like the swirl patterns but I don’t like the colours together.

I’ve been doing school work all day. Ugh. I’ve accomplished a lot though, which is good news. I have three midterms this week, plus a case study, and two labs to do, then four labs total to write up. BLECH.

The UBC Apple Festival is on this weekend and it just happens to be the rainiest weekend we have had in a LOOONG time. 150+ mm of rain today and tomorrow, supposedly.

Being serious apple enthusiasts, the rain didn’t stop us from going this morning. Luckily a lot of the stuff is under tents. We still did everything we did last year, but just spent less time dawdling in between. We did the whole tasting session (you can try pieces of like 60 different apples for 20 minutes), got the big samples of the new apples, ate lots of samples of apple chips, flavoured almonds, popcorn, and drank warm apple cider.

I didn’t take many pictures this year because it was so wet.

My favourite grocery store apple is the Macintosh. I actually really enjoy that kind of mushy texture. I know I am a minority. Anyway the apple festival is awesome because they cross all sorts of types of apples and you can try all these different variations of the type of apple you usually like (crisp, crunchy, tart, juicy, sweet etc.) and find something that YOU really really love.

I don’t think they had as many Macintosh-like apples this year, which was a little disappointing for me. I wanted to buy something different, but ended up getting the same type as I did last year, the Jonamac (cross between a Jonathan and a Macintosh). Scott got Sinta and we are going to share the bag of Yoko (which is a good thing because they are ginormo).

I forced everyone to get into a picture. You can see how hard the rain is coming down if you look in front of the umbrella. And how soggy Lesley and Scott look, haha. Yup it was a damp morning.

Just a reminder that this is a NO CANNED PUMPKIN zone. On this blog you WILL NOT find gross recipes using canned pumpkin such as pumpkin white chocolate cookies/hot chocolate, pumpkin dip/cream cheese/scones, pumpkin pie oatmeal/milkshake/smoothie/french toast. Blech. Why are people so obsessed with ruining perfectly good things by adding canned pumpkin to them in the fall??!! I don’t get it.
